NH-44 Closure: Railways announce Srinagar–Katra special trains

Banihal, Apr 9: In view of the ongoing inclement weather and the closure of the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway (NH-44), the Jammu Railway Division has announced special train services between Srinagar and Katra to assist stranded passengers.
Northern railway officials told Greater Kashmir that the special train will operate for five days from April 11 to April 15, 2026. The train will depart from Katra at 10:05 AM, reach Banihal at 12:05 PM, and arrive in Srinagar at 1:35 PM. In the return direction, the train will leave Srinagar at 3:10 PM, halt at Banihal at 4:10 PM, and reach Katra at 7:00 PM. The train will also have stoppages at Sangaldan and Reasi stations.
Officials said the decision has been taken to ease the movement of passengers affected by repeated disruptions on NH-44 due to landslides and adverse weather conditions.
It is pertinent to mention that in the past as well, the northern railway authorities have introduced special train services during highway closures, particularly in the Ramban–Banihal sector, to ensure connectivity between the Kashmir Valley and the Jammu region during emergencies.
