Srinagar, May 9:
In a move driven by growing security concerns, authorities in Jammu and Kashmir have announced the closure of all schools and colleges across the Union Territory till Sunday, May 12. The decision, confirmed by official sources on Friday, comes as the region remains on edge following recent developments.
While no official circular has been made public yet, senior officials told Daily Maqsad that the situation is being “closely monitored” and a detailed review will be held on Monday to assess whether it is safe to resume in-person classes.
“We understand the disruption this causes, especially for students in the middle of examinations or important academic schedules, but safety has to come first,” an administrative source said.
The announcement has sparked concern among parents and students, many of whom have already faced significant interruptions in their education over the past few years. Schools and college administrations have been advised to stay in regular contact with families and keep them informed through official channels.
For now, the educational community waits in uncertainty, hoping for a swift return to normalcy. The final decision on reopening is expected to be announced after Monday’s review meeting.
Authorities have urged citizens to remain calm, avoid speculation, and rely only on verified government updates in the coming days.
